Located in the very centre of Wales’ capital, lies the Cardiff Motorpoint Arena; a huge, multi-purpose venue which attracts an array of live entertainment and is also a large exhibition centre . One of  the Motorpoint Arena’s main attractions is the fact that it hosts world-class touring music events, including Beyonce, Katy Perry, Ellie Goulding, Girls Aloud, The Prodigy, Mariah  Carey, Mumford & Sons, Pink, Kylie Minogue, Craig David, Dua Lipa, Fatboy Slim, The Killers, The Beach Boys, McFly, Panic at the disco and Avril Lavigne. The Cardiff Motorpoint Arena has also welcomed huge names in comedy, such as Lee Evans, and immense sporting events, as a flexible venue space, including the Premier League Darts and the World Professional Pool Championship.  

 

The Cardiff Motorpoint Arena is owned by Live Nation UK, the US media giant, and is Cardiff’s largest exhibition venue, with a huge auditorium as well as other conference spaces; the upstairs of Cardiff Motorpoint Arena is known as the World Trade Centre.  It has also held huge corporate events such as international trade fairs, the World Music Expo.

Cardiff Motorpoint Arena Capacity and Seating

The Cardiff Motorpoint Arena is a flexible venue which can be both seating and standing. If the Cardiff Motorpoint Arena is standing, then it has a capacity of 7,500 people and if it is seating, it has a capacity of 5,000. There are also smaller conference spaces and executive boardrooms in the arena, as well as a small venue which is used for more intimate gigs and comedy shows. 

If you want to be at the centre of the action, then the best place to sit is in the front rows, in floor blocks 1,2,3. There are also some excellent views of the stage from Blocks 6 and 7. There is a balcony, which often has seating, meaning that if you do not want to be standing in the stalls, this is a great option for enjoying a more relaxed performance.

The Motorpoint Arena Cardiff boasts top-class facilities and everything you need to enjoy an evening or day out watching your favourite show. The venue has four bars which are in the main arena, a well as a popular restaurant and two additional bars which are close to Exit 7. There are also hospitality service available for large corporate events.

Getting there

Given that the Cardiff Motorpoint Arena is situated in the centre of Cardiff, it is very easy to access by both public transport and by car. There are also many amenities The Cardiff Motorpoint Arena address is:

  • Train: the arena is only a few minute walk away from Cardiff Central Station and Cardiff Queen Street Station.  
  • Bus: you can take many bus routes to the centre of Cardiff and then the Motorpoint Arena is only a few minutes walk away from Cardiff Central train station.
  • Air: if you are travelling by plane, you can travel to Cardiff International Airport is only 30 minutes out of the city.  
  • Car: if you are driving to Cardiff Motorpoint Arena, it is easily accessible using motorways. If you are coming at it from the west, leave the M4 motorway at Junction 33 a4232 and if you are travelling from the east, leave the motorway at junction 29. With regards to Cardiff Motorpoint Arena parking, there is no car park on site, but there are several other multi-storey car parks nearby.

Access

Access  

The Cardiff Motorpoint Arena Access number is: 029 2023 4509. Please call this number if you have any questions or would like to talk to a member of staff. There are carers available to assist you throughout your visit, please download and fill out an application form  which is on the official website. You can buy an accessible ticket online, but please note you will have to prove your are eligible.  

 

Access Parking 

If you are travelling by car, there are several multi-storey car parks which have disabled parking available. For example, John Lewis, Adam Street, Quay Street, St.David’s and Rapports. There are a limited number of parking spaces in each car park, so we recommend that you try to get there as early as possible.  

  

Getting inside the venue  

There is an access ramp at the front of the venue, where there are members of staff to assist you on your arrival. There are access toilets and bars on every floor. 

  

Hearing Loop  

There is a hearing loop available, which can be picked up from the desk on arrival, after you pay a £20 returnable deposit.  


Assistance Dogs  

Assistance Dogs are welcome inside the arena, however, please let the arena know beforehand if you have any special requirements for your access dog.

History

Opened on the 10th September 1993, the Cardiff Motorpoint Arena was previously known as the Cardiff International Arena, but changed its name because of sponsorship reasons after the car sales company received naming rights. The opening concert was by Shirely Bassey, a show which was televised don BBC1 in 1994, and since then a myriad of huge names have performed at the venue. In March 2015, Katherine Jenkins played at the arena to make the venue's 3000th event. The Cardiff Motorpoint Arena is currently owned by Livenation and is the largest exhibition centre in Cardiff, drawing people from all over Wales and even the UK to enjoy world class entertainment.
